The Academic Vocabulary Volume 1 is an all-in-one resource pack to help you teach vocabulary effectively and with minimal preparation.

Further Details on Academic Vocabulary
Corresponding Resources
The lesson plan, lesson presentation and the student activities/worksheets are corresponding. Please familiarize yourself with the lesson plan and modify it according to your needs and your students’ needs. A blank lesson plan template is also included.
Activities and Consolidation
Each lesson has five activities. Lessons two and four contain a final exercise incorporating all the twelve words learned in lessons 1-2 and 3-4 respectively.
Graduated Stages
The lesson presentation is in graduated stages, each time leading to an activity:
- Introduction/reminder of the term ‘connotation ‘and a brief discussion leading to the definitions and model sentences.
- Activity 1.
- Class discussion post-activity, including answers.
- Introduction to the next activity (Activities 2-5).
- Repeat steps 1-4.
You can add slides to the presentation but you may not alter the existing slides.
Order of Lesson
You may wish to change the order of the activities and discussion, depending on your teaching style and the differentiated capabilities of the students.
Lesson Duration
Each lesson is intended to last approximately between 45 to 55 minutes. You may wish to divide the lesson into two, depending on the ability of the class. You may also choose to do one activity/worksheet per day in which case, you will be spreading each lesson over 5 days.
Record Sheet
At the end of each lesson, the student has a record sheet where they can write down the words and synonyms that they have learned and those which they need to study more.
